Permutations of a mat typology within Robin Hood Gardens (Smithsons, 1972, Poplar, London). The design seeks  spatial flexibility. The mat, sets to formulate a programmed grid, defining a system that 'expands' and 'contracts', around a rigid spine, defining moments for public-private, formal-informal programmes.

Replicating the Smithsons concept for 'streets in the sky', the sketch above set to investigate through a layered approach, relationships between live-work programmes, public routes and courtyards.

The mat is a set of networks, just like a city. The building is a microcosm of the city's urban fabric, therefore in plan, the proposal can only follow that approach.
